Becoming Supernatural by Joe Dispenza

Becoming nothing, everything and anything
The context before we get to the book
In May 2023, I was a shadow of who I am today. Broken and hopeless, I watched as everything that I thought defined my happiness crumbled within just six weeks: my job, several friendships, and my relationship with my girlfriend.
Sleep eluded me, food lost its appeal, and my mind became a torture chamber of endless overthinking, desperately trying to understand why everything had collapsed simultaneously. The answers lay within me, but my ego stubbornly searched for external explanations.
Lost in this fear of the unknown and my desperate need for control, I began searching for answers. I found many of them within Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth, which I devoured in two weeks, completely absorbed by its wisdom. Each page resonated deeply, helping life make more sense, bringing a soothing clarity to my chaos. But when I turned the final page, the nighttime ruminations returned.
During one of these sleepless nights, while searching for meditation videos on YouTube, I stumbled upon Joe Dispenza’s Restorative Sleep meditation. I knew nothing about him then – I didn’t even realize this meditation wasn’t meant for falling asleep, but to improve it. Yet it became my sanctuary during those midnight hours when anxiety and cortisol flooded my brain, finally allowing me to find rest.
The success of this meditation led me to explore his other works. By June 2023, as I boarded a flight to NYC to visit friends, I had already transformed my daily habits. I’d replaced passive activities like watching TV, gaming, and scrolling social media with active pursuits – educational podcasts, enriching books, and meditation. Throughout the entire flight from London, I immersed myself in various Joe Dispenza recordings – spending the 8 hours flight meditating.
I continued practicing his techniques, but it wasn’t until I began reading Becoming Supernatural that the full picture emerged. This book illuminated the context of his work, offered compelling real-life examples, provided detailed meditation instructions, and explained the science behind achieving greatness and wholeness. Everything finally clicked into place. As I read the book and read his explanations on doing the different meditations, I did them, with the correct way this time, and it’s been a real eye opener.
As I worked my way through the pages, I took extensive notes, and now I want to share these insights with you.
Understanding ‘Becoming Supernatural’ by Joe Dispenza: A Journey into Human Potential
The Science of Heart and Brain Connection
At the core of Dispenza’s work lies the fascinating relationship between our heart and brain. The heart, far from being just a pump, contains its own “brain” with approximately 40,000 neurons. This discovery, made by Dr. J. Andrew Armour in 1991, revolutionized our understanding of how emotions affect our physiology.
When we lead with our heart, we naturally become more:
- Caring and kind
- Inspired and selfless
- Compassionate and giving
- Grateful and trusting
- Patient and understanding
The Impact of Stress vs. Coherence
Our bodies constantly balance between two states: stress (sympathetic nervous system) and restoration (parasympathetic nervous system). When we experience stress, our body releases about 1,200 different chemicals, creating a chemical cascade that lasts 90 seconds to two minutes. While short-term stress can build resilience, prolonged stress creates chaos in our internal systems.
Heart coherence, on the other hand, emerges when we cultivate elevated emotions like gratitude and joy. This state triggers positive chemical responses throughout the body, enhancing our immune system through the thymus gland and creating a more balanced internal environment.
Breaking Free from Survival Mode
Many of us live in what Dispenza calls “survival mode,” where our energy gets stuck in three basic centers:
- First center: Related to basic survival and sexuality
- Second center: Connected to emotions like guilt, fear, and shame
- Third center: Associated with power, control, and aggression
To evolve beyond these survival centers, we must learn to:
- Recognize when we’re operating from these basic centers
- Understand that these centers consume massive amounts of energy when overstimulated
- Practice redirecting our energy to higher centers of consciousness
The Power of the Pineal Gland
One of the most fascinating aspects of Dispenza’s work involves the pineal gland, often called the “third eye.” When activated, this small gland:
- Transmutes melatonin into powerful compounds
- Creates natural antioxidants called pinolines
- Produces chemicals that enhance inner vision and awareness
- Works with the pituitary gland to release oxytocin and vasopressin
The Quantum Perspective
Dispenza takes us on a journey into quantum physics to explain how we can transcend our normal three-dimensional reality. He explains that while our familiar world operates under Newtonian physics (predictable and material), the quantum realm represents the world of infinite possibilities (unpredictable and energetic).
Understanding Space-Time vs. Time-Space
In our three-dimensional reality (space-time), we experience the world through our physical body, our senses, and linear time. However, Dispenza introduces us to the concept of “time-space” - a quantum realm where:
- Time is infinite rather than linear
- We experience reality through pure awareness rather than physical senses
- Past and future exist simultaneously
- We access reality as consciousness rather than as a body
The Bridge to the Quantum Field
To move from our known space-time to the unknown time-space, Dispenza explains that we must cross a bridge - the speed of light. This transition requires us to:
- Move from being “somebody” to becoming “nobody”
- Release attachment to:
- Our physical identity
- Material possessions
- Specific locations
- Linear time
- Enter a state of pure consciousness
The Unified Field
The quantum field, or unified field, is described as a self-organizing intelligence that constantly observes the material world into order and form. In this realm:
- There is no separation between points of consciousness
- All possibilities exist simultaneously
- Time is eternal rather than linear
- We connect to every person, thing, and potential reality
Practical Implications
What makes this quantum understanding practical is how it relates to manifestation and transformation. When we enter this field:
- We move from separation to connection
- We experience wholeness rather than lack
- We create from a state of unity rather than division
- We access infinite possibilities rather than limited probabilities
Dispenza emphasizes that in the unified field, “there is no where to go because you are every where; there is no thing you can want because you are so whole and complete that you feel like you have every thing; you can’t judge any one because you are every one.”
Signs of Quantum Connection
When we successfully connect with the quantum field, it manifests in our lives as:
- Serendipities
- Synchronicities
- Unexpected opportunities
- Coincidences
- Moments of being in the right place at the right time
- Experiences of awe and wonder
The key to accessing this field lies not in trying to control or analyze it, but in surrendering to it. As Dispenza notes, when we move our attention from the outer world to the inner world and become present with this field, we align our consciousness with a greater consciousness.
The Frequency of Matter and Emotions
One of Dispenza’s most profound insights involves the relationship between matter, emotions, and frequency. He explains that matter, in its physical form, vibrates at the slowest frequency in the universe due to its density. However, as we raise matter’s frequency by speeding it up, it begins to dematerialize into energy.
What’s fascinating is that the higher the frequency, the more orderly and coherent that energy becomes. At these elevated levels of frequency and energy, duality and polarity unify to become one. This is what we experience as love or wholeness, because there’s no longer any division or separation.
When we experience self-limiting emotions, they manifest as lower frequencies, making us feel more like matter than energy. Conversely, when we cultivate elevated emotions like love, gratitude, and joy, we raise our frequency, allowing us to:
- Experience greater degrees of wholeness and order
- Connect more deeply with others
- Move beyond our individual identity
- Resonate with higher states of consciousness
As we continue up this frequency scale, moving away from matter and separation, we experience greater degrees of unity and coherence. This explains why, in moments of profound love or spiritual experience, we often feel connected to everything and everyone – we’re literally resonating at frequencies that transcend individual separation.
This understanding provides a scientific framework for why elevated emotional states can lead to supernatural experiences. When we raise our frequency through elevated emotions, we become less bound by the limitations of matter and more attuned to the unified field of consciousness where we are, as Dispenza describes, “no body, no one, no thing, no where, and in no time.”
Practical Applications for Transformation
To apply these concepts in daily life, Dispenza suggests:
- Regular meditation practice, especially between 1 AM and 4 AM when melatonin levels peak
- Cultivating heart coherence through gratitude and positive emotions
- Moving attention from the external world to the internal
- Practicing presence and awareness
- Breaking free from automatic behaviors and thought patterns
The Global Impact
Interestingly, Dispenza connects individual transformation to global change. He references historical research showing correlations between solar activity and human behavior, suggesting that we’re part of a larger energetic system. The Schumann resonance, Earth’s natural frequency of 7.83 Hz, appears to influence our biological rhythms and consciousness.
Conclusion
“Becoming Supernatural” isn’t just about individual transformation—it’s about contributing to a new collective consciousness. As Dispenza emphasizes, the future doesn’t rest on a single leader or messiah but requires the evolution of our collective awareness. By practicing these principles and maintaining elevated emotional states throughout our days, we can contribute to positive global change while transforming our own lives.
The key lies in not just understanding these concepts intellectually but embodying them through consistent practice. As Dispenza notes, “meditation is not about what you get in life; it’s about who you become.”
